CachyOS is rewiring its handheld gaming stack so Steam's session management is treated as a first-class citizen, with a new steamosctl-powered switch to game mode.

The flagship story this morning is a coordinated change across two repos: steamos-gamemode now uses steamosctl to switch to game mode [1], and steamos-manager is being updated to allow registering Steam's session management interface [2]. The two PRs are explicitly linked, with the steamos-manager change depending on the Handheld repo's PR #128 [2], and together they lay the groundwork for a more robust Steam integration on CachyOS handhelds. Over in CachyOS-PKGBUILDS, nvidia-utils is getting cleaned up: there's a new pkgrel bump [3], modprobe configuration files are being combined [4], and a separate PR bundles miscellaneous config fixes [5]. These are housekeeping changes, but they tighten up NVIDIA driver config on a rolling distro where edge cases bite. On the AI desktop front, three major AI clients all bumped their packaged versions: Claude Desktop jumped from 1.34493.1 to 1.37937.0 [6], GitHub Copilot app moved to 1.1.14 [7], and ChatGPT Desktop crept up to 26.820.60940 [8]. Each is a low-risk update, but if you depend on any of them, grab the new builds to stay current. Over in the handheld config repo, there's a documentation fix that matters more than it sounds: a PR adds instructions to use non_shader_cm=0 when you hit the DS black screen bug [9]. It's a quality-of-life win for anyone running Hyprland on a device with DS shaders. Mirror updates are rolling out too: a new US East mirror (mirror.lug.umbc.edu) is being added to cachyos-mirrorlist [10], and both China mirrors, USTC and Nanjing, are healthy and responding in the 2.1 to 2.3 second range [11][12]. Finally, the scheduler package scx-scheds-git gets a version and tag bump [13] in the Copr repo, keeping it in sync with the cutting edge. All told, 47 commits and 10 PRs across six repos, and the handheld session work is the one to watch.
