Django now creates a SQLite database file's parent directories before connecting, and the project has locked in the release date for 6.1.2, 6.0.9, and 5.2.18.
Fixed #36496 -- Ensured the parent path to a sqlite file exists. django/django
Django now creates the parent directories of a SQLite database path if they are missing before attempting to connect, and reraises the resulting OSError as an InterfaceError, so misconfigured paths surface as database errors rather than bare filesystem failures.
Fixed #36496 -- Ensured the parent path to a sqlite file exists. django/django
Rebkwok's branch description frames the fix around the failure mode it removes: "Unable to open database file" errors no longer appear when SQLite db paths are defined in subdirectories. The change applies to both real and test database settings, so test runs pointing at nested paths stop failing on setup.
Confirmed release date for 6.1.2, 6.0.9, and 5.2.18. django/django
Jacob Walls marked the release date for 6.1.2, 6.0.9, and 5.2.18 as confirmed, which is the point at which you can start scheduling the upgrade around a known date. Note that the SQLite fix above is a fresh commit, not a guarantee of inclusion in those releases.
