Release checklists learn calendar versioning, docs annotations untangled

By RepoJournal · Filed · About Django · Composed from the cited sources · methodology

Django's release tooling now computes the next patch and feature versions from DEP 20's calendar scheme instead of by hand, while the docs annotation CSS shed markup-shape dependencies ahead of the djangodocs Sphinx extension cleanup.

by nessita

The checklists derived the next patch and feature versions by hand assuming the A.B.C scheme, so a 2028 release produced 2028.0.1 and 2028.1 instead of 2028.1 and 2029. The new get_next_feature_version() and get_next_patch_version() helpers in releases.utils now own that arithmetic, with the hand-off from 6.2 to the first calendar version pinned explicitly in LAST_NON_CALENDAR_FEATURE_VERSION.

Prepared docs styles for the djangodocs Sphinx extension cleanup django/djangoproject.com

by nessita

Three changes prime the docs styles for the djangodocs Sphinx extension cleanup, which is what unblocks building Django's documentation with a maintained third-party theme. The first two are backward compatible with docs already published for every supported version; the third is a small deliberate spacing change that shows up on all of them.

Made docs version annotation styles independent of the markup shape. django/djangoproject.com

Box styles were drawn on both the container div and the span.versionmodified label inside it, undone only under .deprecated, so any other directive reaching Sphinx's renderer got a box inside a box. The box is now scoped to the div and both labels styled directly, with no visual change to published docs.

Evened out the spacing inside docs version annotation boxes. django/djangoproject.com

by Natalia

Version annotation boxes get a tighter 0.3em paragraph rhythm and a matching bottom margin on the label, skipped when the label is the whole box. Deprecated boxes gain a gap under their label, multi-paragraph boxes read more compactly, and bodyless annotations lose a stray trailing gap.

Added Lilian Tran to the security team and Shai Berger to triager role. django/dsf-working-groups

The other desks logged a ubuntu-latest results run for the django-asv benchmarks and two security team changes: Lilian Tran joins the security team, Shai Berger moves to the triager role.
