Windows CI gets gettext, djangosnippets drops a dead dependency
By RepoJournal · Filed · About Django · Composed from the cited sources · methodology
Django's Windows jobs will now actually run their translation-string tests, and djangosnippets.org shed a PyPI-orphaned package while bumping Django to 5.2.18 and certifi to 2026-10-19.
Fixed #37396 -- Added gettext to PATH in Windows CI. django/django
Chocolatey's gettext bin directory was never added to PATH for later CI steps, so every Windows test touching msgfmt and xgettext was silently skipped; the change also skips PoFileTests.test_no_write_access on Windows, where chmod() cannot make a directory read-only. Expect those Windows jobs to get slower and to start failing on real translation regressions they were previously blind to.
Refs #36717 -- Noted RedirectURLMixin signature changes in 6.1 release notes. django/django
Adam Johnson's commit records the RedirectURLMixin signature changes in the 6.1 release notes, which is where you want to look before porting a custom login view that subclasses or overrides it.
Bump django and certifi django/djangosnippets.org
Jacob Walls went in to round up the wagons on certifi after the eMudhra incident and instead hit a hard blocker: django-generic-annotation had been removed from PyPI, so uv sync would not resolve. He replaced the one usage with bare Django, confirmed tests pass, and removed the dependency, noting an AI-assisted search suggests the functionality is not used in prod.
Bump django and certifi (#665) django/djangosnippets.org
The commit behind that cleanup also replaces the direct dependency on requests, bumps certifi to 2026-10-19, and bumps Django to 5.2.18 on djangosnippets.org.
