kube-state-metrics exposes PVC idle time, apiserver write throughput gets a KEP
By RepoJournal · Filed · About Kubernetes · Composed from the cited sources · methodology
kube-state-metrics shipped the metric that makes unused PersistentVolumeClaims queryable in PromQL, while the enhancements repo absorbed proposals on apiserver write throughput, CSI volume reconstruction fallback, and OCI artifact-based security profiles.
feat: expose PVC condition last transition time kubernetes/kube-state-metrics
The new kube_persistentvolumeclaim_status_condition_last_transition_timestamp_seconds gauge carries the lastTransitionTime the existing 0/1 condition gauge drops, so PromQL timestamp() no longer has to stand in as scrape time. The motivation is KEP-5541's Unused condition, whose lastTransitionTime is unused-since, letting you alert on how long a PVC has gone unused instead of guessing from scra...
KEP-6404: Introduce KEP (improve apiserver write throughput) kubernetes/enhancements
serathius opened KEP-6404 to improve apiserver write throughput, assigned to wojtek-t and liggitt, tied to the tracking issue in kubernetes/kubernetes. No code yet; this is the design step that has to land before any etcd or apiserver write-path work does.
KEP-6058: CSI volume reconstruction fallback kubernetes/enhancements
KEP-6058 gives kubelet a way out when CSI volume reconstruction at restart fails to load the pod-local vol_data.json. The VolumeReconstructionFallback alpha gate (default off) falls back to the equivalent file under the global mount directory, avoiding the orphaned global mounts that KEP-3756 documents as requiring manual operator cleanup.
KEP-6061: OCI artifact-based security profile distribution kubernetes/enhancements
KEP-6061 proposes distributing seccomp and AppArmor profiles as OCI artifacts rather than through per-node file placement: seccomp in alpha, AppArmor in beta. It is a design proposal, so nothing changes in how profiles are configured today.
build: Bump golangci-lint to v2.13.2 kubernetes/kube-state-metrics
golangci-lint in kube-state-metrics moved to v2.13.2, since v2.11.3 is built with go1.26 and refuses to run against a go.mod targeting 1.27.0; the newer staticcheck now emits fully qualified paths in SA1019 messages, which broke two exclusion regexes, and node test fixtures dropped KubeProxyVersion because node.go hardcodes the kubeproxy_version label to "deprecated".
