DRA capacity requests, in-place node resize, and weighted load balancing head to KEP review
By RepoJournal · Filed · About Kubernetes · Composed from the cited sources · methodology
Kubernetes' enhancement pipeline carried the day, with new or graduating KEPs for DRA extended resource capacity requests, in-place node resource resize, weighted load balancing, and DRA sharing affinity, while the published staging repos took routine dependency bumps.
KEP-6406: Allow Capacity Requests for DRA Extended Resource Mapping kubernetes/enhancements
shivamerla's KEP-6406 proposes extending Dynamic Resource Allocation so workloads can request capacity against extended resource mappings. It is an early-stage proposal rather than an accepted design, so nothing changes in the API today, but it signals where DRA scheduling is heading.
KEP-3953: In-place Node Resource Resize kubernetes/enhancements
KEP-3953 covers resizing a node's resources in place; the PR is the first pass at the enhancement text, with the proposal body still to fill in. If it lands, it would let operators change node capacity without draining and replacing the node.
KEP 6315: Weighted load balancing kubernetes/enhancements
serathius opened an early draft of KEP 6315 for weighted load balancing, cc'ing mborsz. Weighting traffic across backends is the kind of knob that eventually reaches kube-proxy and gateway implementations, but at draft stage there is no design agreement to read yet.
KEP-5981: DRA Sharing Affinity for Consumable Capacity kubernetes/enhancements
KEP-5981 extends DRA sharing affinity to consumable capacity, from ashvindeodhar. It targets the case where multiple pods consume slices of one resource, where affinity and accounting have to agree.
KEP-4939: update for beta graduation kubernetes/enhancements
KEP-4939 moved toward beta with TLS support in gRPC communication as the content of the update. Everything else on the wire was routine: the release repo bumped counterfeiter to 6.14.0, the website advanced patch release schedule entries for 1.37, 1.36, 1.35, and 1.34 and picked up Japanese and Chinese translations, and endpointslice and kube-scheduler published k8s.io/kube-openapi and otel v1....
