ext4 data=journal gets a 2028 removal date

By RepoJournal · Filed · About Linux · Composed from the cited sources · methodology

The kernel's ext4 maintainer starts the clock on data=journal while networking fixes close an XDP redirect hole and a filter leak, and Omarchy reshapes its repository and dictation defaults.

ext4: mark data=journal as deprecated and will be removed in January 2028. torvalds/linux

by Theodore Ts'o

Ted Ts'o's commit marks the ext4 data=journal feature as deprecated with removal scheduled for January 2028, and the pull was merged for the 7.3-rc7 tag. Mount options that depend on journaled data writes now carry an explicit expiration date.

veth: fix peer NETDEV_XDP_ACT_NDO_XMIT after GRO is toggled while down torvalds/linux

by Tianyi Gao

A veth device advertised NETDEV_XDP_ACT_NDO_XMIT only when its peer would have NAPI to receive frames, but veth_set_features() returned early on a down device and veth_open() refreshed only the opening side, so toggling GRO while down left the peer's flag stale. XDP redirects into that peer were then rejected with -EOPNOTSUPP, or accepted and dropped with -ENXIO if GRO was turned off.

net: sparx5: free the matchall entry on destroy torvalds/linux

by Daniel Machon

sparx5_tc_matchall_destroy() unlinked each matchall entry without freeing it, leaking a struct sparx5_mall_entry for every deleted mirror and goto filter, a bug caught by an AI code review agent and reproduced under kmemleak on a lan969x EV23X71A board.

Prioritize OPR and migrate existing repository ordering basecamp/omarchy

by dhh

Omarchy's defaults listed Arch before OPR, so same-named packages resolved to Arch first; the stable, RC, and edge defaults now put OPR first so Omarchy can ship overrides, including the forthcoming Quickshell build. An idempotent migration moves the existing [omarchy] section while preserving administrator options, custom repositories, and channel URLs, backing up the config first.

Fix shell palette collision with Qt 6.12 basecamp/omarchy

by dhh

Qt 6.12 adds a QtQuick Color type that shadows Omarchy's unqualified palette singleton, leaving shell colors undefined after Quickshell is rebuilt against it; the fix imports qs.Commons as Commons and qualifies references as Commons.Color, a requirement third-party plugins share.

Add selectable Voxtype and Superwhisper dictation basecamp/omarchy

by dhh

Dictation moves under Setup then Defaults then Dictation, with Voxtype and Superwhisper sharing Right Alt/F9 push-to-talk and Super + Ctrl + X toggle, and the selection stored in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/omarchy/defaults/dictation. The aarch64 offline install bug that looked for node-v*-linux-x64.tar.gz instead of linux-arm64 is also being fixed, matching what the n1x branch already carries.
