Agent stream helpers land in both SDKs, Codex daemons survive cwd deletion

By RepoJournal · Filed · About OpenAI · Composed from the cited sources · methodology

The Agents streaming APIs grew a way to hand you the final answer directly in openai-node and openai-python alike, while Codex hardened daemon and updater restarts against a deleted working directory.

feat: collect final output from beta Agents streams openai/openai-node

by apcha-oai

openai-node's beta Agents sessions now surface the completed final answer straight off the stream, so callers no longer track the root turn or accumulate completed final-answer messages themselves. A parallel change landed in the Python SDK the same day.

feat: collect final output from beta Agents streams openai/openai-python

by apcha-oai

openai-python mirrors the same capability: collect a hosted agent's final answer from the stream whether the call creates a session or continues one, replacing the per-event turn tracking and final-message accumulator applications had to write. The API described it as removing the need for that scaffolding.

Recover daemon startup and updater re-exec after cwd deletion (#49819) openai/codex

by Eric Traut

Managed daemons and updaters can outlive the directory that launched them; restarts and updater replacement now fall back to the daemon state directory when the Unix working directory is gone, while still honoring usable working directories. Working-directory preparation is shared between background launches and Unix updater re-execution.

Preserve daemon diagnostics and include updater logs in reports openai/codex

by copyberry

Detached launches stopped truncating away evidence of earlier failures: the last 256 KiB of nonempty stderr logs is preserved before truncation and append handles close the gap that left existing writers with stale offsets after an updater handoff. Lifecycle and update stages are now recorded with timings, outcomes, and typed OS errors, with error messages and context omitted.

Allow microphone channel selection for voice conversations openai/codex

by copyberry

The new audio.microphone_channel setting takes one-based channel numbers, either a single value or an array such as [1, 2], so playback channels on a multichannel device stay out of microphone capture; leaving it unset preserves mixing of all inputs. An input-channel picker accompanies it.

Remove personality plumbing from the TUI (#49876) openai/codex

by Eric Traut

Personality is out of the TUI: turn commands, cached thread session state, and thread settings notifications no longer carry it, and turn/start sends no personality override. It is forwarded through session configuration only when supplied explicitly as a CLI override rather than derived from the effective local configuration.

feat(api): Add agent session trace listing openai/openai-node

by apcha-oai

A new client.beta.agents.sessions.traces.list resource returns published root-turn traces as OTLP JSON with cursor pagination and ascending or descending ordering, alongside exported Traces, SessionTrace, SessionTracesPage, and TraceListParams types.

fix(api): correct the eval run cancellation endpoint openai/openai-python

by marcuswood-oai

Eval run cancellation requests now go to /evals/{eval_id}/runs/{run_id}/cancel instead of the wrong endpoint; cancellation method parameters and response types are unchanged.
