AI SDK FIXES FIREWORKS ERROR PARSING, WORKFLOW KILLS SILENT SANDBOX SIDE EFFECTS

By RepoJournal · Filed · About Vercel

The AI SDK patched a critical error-handling bug in the Fireworks provider that was silently swallowing structured error messages, while workflow's serialization layer now runs side-effect-free to prevent sandbox code execution during inspection.

Fireworks was returning errors as nested objects, but the AI SDK schema expected a bare string [1]. Parse failures fell back to HTTP reason phrases, burying the real error details. Walter Korman fixed the schema and added test coverage [2], with ai@7.0.48 shipping alongside five dependent package bumps [3] [4] [5]. Over in workflow, TooTallNate eliminated a deeper problem: serialization was triggering side effects by dispatching ordinary operations like `Array.from()` and `.toISOString()` into the sandboxed VM, executing user code at inspection time [6] [7]. The fix uses reflection primitives that stay on the host. VaguelySerious also shrunk the event-log race repro test from 1400 runs down to 14, cutting preview-deployment churn by 100x [8]. Next.js canary deprecated `experimental.useCache` and fixed hybrid Pages/App Router not-found handling [9].
