Image processors composite tRNS transparency; kernel test harness moves to get_kernel

By RepoJournal · Filed · About Hugging Face · Composed from the cited sources · methodology

Two correctness fixes landed across the Hugging Face org today: image processors now composite PNG transparency stored in a tRNS chunk instead of discarding it, and kernels-community tests stop importing the torch-ext source tree in favor of get_kernel.

Composite transparency in shared RGB conversion and image processors huggingface/transformers

by Nikhi00718

PNG transparency can live in a tRNS chunk even when Pillow reports RGB, grayscale or palette mode, and dropping that metadata exposed the underlying pixel values, often black; shared RGB conversion and the image processors now composite it instead. If you feed transparent PNGs through any image processor, expect different, correct pixel values where alpha was previously thrown away.

finegrained-kernels: load the kernel with get_kernel in the tests huggingface/kernels-community

by IlyasMoutawwakil

tests/utils.py now loads the kernel once via get_kernel("kernels-community/finegrained-kernels", version=0) and every test file pulls the kernel and its internals from there, instead of importing the torch-ext source tree. Internal modules are exposed through a private namespace, so the test suite no longer assumes a local build layout.

[ci] fix public api check and add tests huggingface/kernels-community

by sayakpaul

The public API check used to fail on a run that should have passed: adding positional arguments without changing existing defaults is now tolerated. The check also gets clearer CI error messages and a test suite wired into CI, so API-compat failures you see are more likely to be real.

[Refactor] Make CB utils depend on no CB import huggingface/transformers

by remi-or

CB utils.py imported from requests.py, which was a utility file historically; as the module has grown that dependency is impractical, and this refactor strips it. create_warmup_request and get_device_and_memory_breakdown move to the request file, loggers move out of the shared module, and create_warmup_future_states goes through a deprecation cycle.

chore: improve typing in modeling_rope_utils.py (#49831) huggingface/transformers

by Ryan Mullins

Typing in modeling_rope_utils.py is tightened, and mrope_interleaved is dropped from the Multimodal RoPE docstring because it was not a real parameter.
