ARCH ISO SHRINKS 8 MIB WITH ARM64 COMPRESSION TWEAK

By RepoJournal · Filed · About Arch Linux

AArch64 ISOs just got leaner without touching x86_64, and buildbtw's graph calculation now shows real-time pending status.

The archiso team deployed a targeted compression win by adding xz's arm64 BCJ filter to mksquashfs configuration [1], reducing AArch64 squashfs images by approximately 8 MiB with zero performance regression on x86_64 builds. Meanwhile, buildbtw landed a batch of fixes that mark iterations with pending graph calculations in bbtw show [2][3], improving visibility into build state across iterations [4]. Testing repos are cycling through minor version bumps: pkgconf 3.0.5 [5], spirv-llvm-translator 22.1.5 [6][7], mise 2026.8.0 [8], and python-cachetools 7.1.7 [9] all moving through their respective channels without incidents. The archlinux/buildbtw desk also cleaned up unused lint exceptions to reduce noise in the codebase [10].
