JAX drops legacy IFRT device APIs, google-auth adds 3.15
By RepoJournal · composed from the cited sources · human-reviewed weekly · methodology
Google's client libraries ship three python-genai model releases and Python 3.15 support lands across google-auth, BigQuery, and Django Spanner.
google-auth: v2.59.0 googleapis/google-cloud-python
by release-please[bot]
google-auth declares Python 3.15 support, and the same period's release train widens it to django-google-spanner 5.2.0 and BigQuery. BigQuery had been held back from the main 3.15 support change by its optional pyarrow dependency; the release notes say the dependency "is optional, so doesn't need to block official 3.15 support."
v2.26.0 googleapis/python-genai
by release-please[bot]
python-genai 2.26.0 adds gcs_metrics_uri for exporting tuning job metrics and brings Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS into the model set.
v2.28.0 googleapis/python-genai
by release-please[bot]
python-genai 2.28.0 extends the Interactions Model enum with lyria-3.5, gemini-omni-1.1-flash, and gemini-omni-flash-preview. The three python-genai releases this period, 2.26.0 through 2.28.0, are the fastest-moving surface here.
Remove LoadedExecutable::addressable_devices() and migrate callers to devices(). google/jax
addressable_devices() is gone; devices() returns std::optional<DeviceListRef> and yields std::nullopt for portable executables. The sibling removal of num_devices() migrated callers such as pjit.cc to the new accessor, reading the global device count when devices() is empty.
fix: ensure Vertex AI interactions client uses default timeout=None instead of 5s. googleapis/python-genai
The Vertex AI interactions client now defaults to timeout=None. Previously it inherited a 5s default, which would cut off any interaction that outran five seconds.
fix(google-auth-oauthlib): prevent ipv6 address reuse googleapis/google-cloud-python
google-auth-oauthlib now guards against external processes reusing the same IPv6 address and hijacking oauth calls, extending the earlier port-level guard to IPv6.
feat(bigtable): Reroute Mutations Batcher to use data client googleapis/google-cloud-python
The Bigtable mutations batcher is rebuilt on the data client, replacing the old implementation and its unit tests. If you batch mutations through the Python client, that path is the one to re-test.
feat: update Compute v1 API to version 2026-09-01 (#18523) googleapis/google-cloud-python
Compute v1 tracks API version 2026-09-01. AggregatedList RPCs lose their return_partial_success fields and now behave as return_partial_success=true, and several enums and fields that no longer exist in the API docs are removed.
