Calendar.ISO parsing gets faster, coverage summaries drop ETS
By RepoJournal · Filed · About Elixir & Phoenix · Composed from the cited sources · methodology
Elixir's date-time hot paths got two measured speedups and its coverage tooling got simpler, while Mix's dependency convergence and a README logo round out a routine day.
Optimize Calendar.ISO microsecond-to-time conversion elixir-lang/elixir
Rewriting microseconds-to-time as bounded reciprocal multiplication with bit masking and subtraction, plus guarding and inlining the helper so OTP can infer integer bounds and skip bignum overflow checks, makes the conversion about 1.5x faster with less memory allocated. The change is credited to preciz's writeup on fast time-of-day conversion.
Optimize UTC-offset adjustment in Calendar.ISO parsing elixir-lang/elixir
Nonzero UTC offsets are now normalized directly in seconds and fed through seconds_to_time/1 instead of via intermediate day-fraction conversions, for roughly 1.3x faster parsing with parsed microseconds and precision preserved.
Accumulate module coverage counts in a map instead of ETS elixir-lang/elixir
Coverage summary generation keeps a plain map of per-module counts rather than an ETS table plus a separate module-membership set, accumulating covered and uncovered locally and writing once when the module changes, since :cover hands back each module's lines together. A follow-up to the earlier coverage work in this area.
Remove redundant dependency passes in Mix.Compilers.Elixir elixir-lang/elixir
Because Mix.Dep.cached/0 already returns dependencies before their dependents, the convergence pass no longer accumulates unaffected dependencies for a retry; the topological order makes the extra passes unnecessary.
Fix dark-mode logo in README (#15915) elixir-lang/elixir
And a small one: the README logo now renders correctly in dark mode.
